Meet Our School Counselor: Jessie Green Albano(left)

My wife and I after she performed with the Portland Lesbian Choir (PLC)

Welcome to Powell Butte Elementary! My name is Jessie Green Albano, and I am proud to serve as your school counselor. With eight years of experience at Powell Butte, including three years in my current role, I bring a wealth of knowledge and dedication to our school community. My background includes roles as a Playworks coach, SUN site manager, and educational assistant, all of which have enriched my approach to counseling.

I utilize a solution-focused and Adlerian lens in my work, emphasizing the importance of strong, supportive relationships between students and adults. I believe that students thrive when they have a reliable adult at home to guide and support them, and I am committed to fostering these connections in my work with students.

At Powell Butte, I lead several initiatives that I am particularly passionate about. The Lunch Bunch program offers students the chance to enjoy lunch in a supportive environment, while the Rainbow Club provides a safe space for LGBTQIA2S+ students and allies. Additionally, I co-lead the Student Leadership program with Mrs. Carrasquer, empowering our students to take on leadership roles within the school.

As a transgender woman, I am dedicated to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students. I love this community and have had the privilege of working with many families over the years. I look forward to continuing to build strong relationships and supporting our students in every way I can.

If you ever have any issues or concerns, please reach out to me directly. I love talking to families about any and all issues you may have with our school.

Lesson Plans:

As the school counselor, I have the privilege of teaching a 30-minute lesson to every class in the school every other week. These lessons incorporate elements from Sources of Strength, along with topics I feel are important to address with our students. Last school year, a needs assessment survey revealed that bullying and teasing (or roasting) are significant issues that need our attention. If you're interested in learning more or helping to teach these lessons, please see the slides I've created and use for my sessions. I will continue to add to these throughout the school year as I develop more content.
